Anne Lacaton (Saint Pardoux la Rivière, 1955) and Jean-Philippe Vassal (Casablanca, 1954) earned their diplomas from the Architecture School of Bordeaux in 1980.
Lacaton has taught at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, and Vassal was a professor at the schools of Versailles, Bordeaux, and Düsseldorf before taking on his current post at Berlin’s TU.
The firm has received a great many awards, such as the Eric Schelling Award in 2006, The Grand Prix National d’Architecture in 2008, the International Fellowship del Royal Institute of British Architects in 2009, the Daylight & Building Components Award, Villum Fonden in 2011, the Equerre d’Argent Prize in 2011, the Rolf Schock Prize, visual arts category in 2014 and the BigMat International Architecture Award in 2017.
