SINGAPORE HIGH-SPEED RAIL TERMINUS

The 350-kilometre Kuala Lumpur-Singapore High Speed Rail, set to open in 2026, will connect Singapore to the Malaysian capital in only 90 minutes. The Singaporean terminus will form an integral part of the Jurong Lake District, earmarked as the country’s second Central Business District.
Though the railway platforms are below grade, the design seeks to form an above-ground civic landmark that celebrates this new international gateway to Singapore.
Inspired by their previous experience designing Beijing South and Guangzhou South high-speed stations, the terminus incorporates airport-style segregation of arriving and departing passengers to maximise efficiency and accommodate customs, immigration, and quarantine requirements.
In keeping with Singapore’s reputation as the Garden City, the station’s undulating roof will form an integral element of the Lakeside Gateway precinct’s verdant landscape. Skylights will flood the station with natural light, creating continuity between interior and exterior.
The terminus will be connected to the existing Jurong East MRT Station as well as a stop on the planned Cross Island MRT Line. The resulting multi-modal transport interchange will make Jurong East a strong economic hub, with superior connectivity and accessibility.
