Built in a stripped style in 2007 by the national airline Sakaeronavigatsia, the Batumi airport control tower was subsequently pronounced unfit by the client for the purposes of an international runway.
In order to restyle it without altering its basic structure, it was decided to wrap the tower in a new and softer-looking envelope. Its slightly transparent cladding rests on the building and creates a sense of movement, disguising the geometrical rigidity of the profile beneath it.
Inside the tower, a differently designed weather station was also installed.
