PAVILION 21 MINI OPERA SPACE

The task of the project for Mini Space was to develop a temporary 500 seat Pavilion for the Munich Opera Festival 2010 with a multifunctional stage. The requirements given include flexibility on one hand and excellent acoustics on the other: lightweight construction is usually not suitable for acoustic spaces which require physical mass. Coop Immelb(l)au has worked with the awareness that the acoustical properties of a space can be enhanced by tilted walls and increase surface area. Another design strategy was to reduce the influence of external sources of sound. The idea of surface enlargement designed a pyramid-shaped aluminum structures with a steel wood insulating layer.
