The Waldhotel Healthy Living extends the theme of sustainability to an innovative typology of hospitality as a complex that offers not only wellness facilities but also services for several kinds of medical care, all in a setting of unspoiled nature, quite unlike anything experienced at traditional hospitals. Embodying the future of Western hospitality, it is a contemporary version of the Davos sanatorium in Thomas Mann’s The Magic Mountain. The project’s location - it is immersed in the lush biosphere created by the forest and overlooking Lake Lucerne, which almost completely surrounds Bürgenstock Mountain - offers breathtaking panoramic views. Located right on the side of the mountain, the building steps gently down the slope, expanding in a series of terraces and “green” roofs, which regulate the building’s temperature.
