The project for the new Effer-Sol.Ge. has two main pourposes: to design spaces in tune with the various and often contrasting needs of the people who work there and to create a structure that in some way could reflect the company’s product, the crane. Building codes ensured one of the contributing factors in order to reach the first idea: in order to satisfy the legal requirement regarding distance from the road, the fourth floor was off-centred five meters away from its north-south axis, and three meters off the east-west. This asymmetry reminds the instability of dangling objects. The idea of movement is also given by the system of sun shades: it alters the external aspect of the building according to weather conditions and seasons.
