CITY OF LONDON FREEMEN'S SCHOOL

Hawkins\Brown has completed the first phase of a masterplan to overhaul The City of London Freemen’s School in Ashtead, Surrey.
City of London Freemen's School had a vision to improve the quality of their listed campus setting, with the addition of a new boarding house and music school.
Following a design competition Hawkins\Brown was appointed by City of London, to masterplan and design new facilities for the City of London Freemen’s School.
The four phases of work include a new boarding house for 60 pupils, a music school including practice rooms and a recital hall, sports facilities including changing rooms and sports pitches, a new swimming pool, refurbishment of the Grade 2* Listed House, a playground for the junior school and landscaping.
The new music school has a 200-seat recital hall, dedicated practice rooms with acoustic qualities to suit a range of instruments, KS3 teaching and IT facilities. It sits alongside the new 60-bed boarding house, with both buildings sharing an external courtyard.
The new pool facilities provide a competition grade 6 lane, 25m swimming pool with training pool. Future phases will refurbish and remodel the Grade 2* Listed Main House to provide dining and kitchen facilities, new boarding accommodation and teaching spaces.
The new facilities will enable the school to provide high quality teaching facilities, whilst reflecting the sensitive domestic setting in Surrey.
