Located on Broadway, the multi-use arts center established a new nexus for social, cultural, and intellectual life at Barnard College. The educational complex unites landscape and architecture, interior and exterior in a seven-story building with double height glass hall and an unfolded glazed staircase that eliminate visual boundaries between the College and the city. Carving a diagonal void through the building, the slipped hall create views through diverse program spaces and connect Lehman lawn to the upper floors of the complex and the green roof. The façade is composed of clear and color integral glass panels.
The program of the building includes architecture and painting studios, a 500-seats performance space, black box theatre, café, dining room, reading room, classrooms and exhibition galleries.
